The members of Songe Social Change non-profit organisation (NPO) hosted an awareness campaign about drug abuse, at Bhekizulu Senior Secondary School in Libode, recently.
According to the care and support champion (CSC) co-ordinator for Songe Social Change, Sinobom Gwityi, the purpose of the campaign was to educate the youth about substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and bullying.
“Lots of learners drop out of school because of substance use, teenage pregnancy and bullying, hence we decided to be proactive and impart knowledge to them so that they do not fall into such mentioned behaviours,” she said.
She added that they wanted to groom them to live better lives and also make this country a better place, as it starts with their generation.
Gwityi confirmed that they had also done the same awareness campaign at Upper Corana Senior Secondary School, Ndamase Senior Secondary School and Nkosi Mvinjelwa Senior Secondary School.
“We are going to all 30 schools that we are working with, and we are partnering with the Department of Education in these awareness campaigns,” she said.
Gwityi further added that they were also visiting schools that fall under the Nyandeni sub-district of the OR Tambo Municipality.
