The couple who founded the Sandiso and Zandile Maninjwa Charity Organisation, brought a smile to the learners from Dikiso Primary School in Ngqeleni by donating uniforms and school bags to them.
The aim of this initiative was to show love and support to these learners, since Zandile Maninjwa is a former learner at that school.
Sandiso said they started this charity in November, last year, after they visited two family members in Cape Town on Christmas Eve and found that one of them had nothing for Christmas.
He said they then decided to start this initiative with the aim of assisting the needy, especially children.
“This is the first time we have donated uniforms to learners, but we are hoping that we could do this annually.
“We decided to take the responsibility and focus on schools that are in deep rural areas. We have noticed that the schools who benefit are always those who are in the urban areas. We can assure you that we are doing this from our own pockets and assisted by our friends,” said Maninjwa.
He said they appealed to those people who could come forward and assist to do so.
The principal of the school, Vuyisa Mgubhuli, said this initiative would assist a lot in terms of fighting the behaviour of learners who dropped out of school due because they did not have school uniforms.
“If we are getting such support, surely all learners would always be willing to go to school. We are happy that there are people who know that we are existing in this area,” said Mgubhuli.
The school governing body chairperson, Zoleka Gombane, said they were happy to receive such support because this would bring dignity to their children.
“Most of us we are not working and it is not easy to buy uniforms for our children, but today they are looking so beautiful because of this organisation,” said Gomban.
