Kentane United, from Centane in the Mnquma area, have started their preparation for the provincial ABC Motsepe League promotion play-offs, which will be played next month.

This follows after Kentane United won the SAFA Amathole region positional play-offs by defeating Fort Hare University 2-1 at the Komga Sports Ground earlier this month.

The victory provided them with the opportunity to compete in the provincial play-offs, where the winners from all the regions of the Eastern Cape will be aiming at gaining a promotion to the ABC Motsepe League next season.

The play-offs will take place in Aliwal North from June 10, and all the regional winners will be competing for two available spots in the ABC Motsepe League.

Dr Lungile Zamxaka, from Kentane United, said the team is aiming at doing well when they compete in the play-offs.

Zamxaka said they are doing their best to prepare the players for this big occasion.

He also highlighted that Kentane United comes from a small rural town, where there is not enough support in terms of sports resources.

Despite these challenges, they are aiming at doing well and making everyone proud.

Should Kentane United gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, it will be the first team from Centane ever to play in that division.

In the coming days the South Africa Football Association in the Eastern Cape is expected to make an official statement where they will confirm which teams will take part in the play-offs and conduct a draw for the event.
