Mthatha-born rugby player and Border Ladies’ senior team wing, Nqatyiswa “Sticks” Lufutha (22), is optimistic that one day her dream of wearing the Springbok Women’s Senior team jersey will become a reality.
Currently, Lufutha is doing well for Border Ladies. Out of the nine games played in the Women’s Premier Division in 2021, Lufutha has managed to score a try in six of them.
Her contribution to the team has assisted Border Ladies in remaining contenders for the championship title. They are currently sitting in second position with 34 points from nine matches.
Above them, log leaders, DHL Western Province, have 44 points from the same number of matches played.
With her current performance at club level, the 22-year-old is hoping that it could help her to attract the attention of Springbok Women’s senior team scouters.
In previous years, Lufutha was a regular player in the u/16 and u/20 national team colours, and now she has a hope that her current performance in the Women’s Premier Division will help her to earn a place in a Springbok Women’s senior team in the near future.
“I am happy about my current form and also happy about my contribution to the team,” said Lufutha, while she was chatting with Mthatha Express.
At present, Lufutha is also studying electrical engineering at the King TVET College at Theko Campus, Centane.
