An man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping his 18-year-old niece on February 9, 2020.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, the victim
was attending a family ceremony at Teko Springs, in Centane when the incident occurred.
“While she was sleeping, she felt someone touching and raping her. The
victim then told her mother who advised her to report the matter to the police,” Mawisa said.
A
case of rape was registered at the Centane Police Station, and thereafter handed over
to Butterworth family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit
(FCS).
“The accused was arrested and charged for rape.”
Acting Amathole District Commissioner, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu welcomed the
sentence and applauded the FCS members for the sterling work that they displayed
in ensuring that justice prevailed.
