Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday, August 25.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said that during 2021 to
February 2022, Sinethemba Mdoda (27) who was employed at the Mayfair Casino in Mthatha as a guest
relations officer colluded with his friend Yamkela Ndlala (28) to commit fraud at the Mayfair
Casino. Mdoda unlawfully and intentionally loaded redeemable points
for Ndlala to the amount of R500 000 as well as 5 000
points to all Mayfair Casino clients.

“The members of the Mthatha based Hawk’s
Serious Commercial Crime Investigation were summoned to attend the crime scene
and conducted the investigations which led to the arrest of Mdoda and Ndlala on
February 14, 2022. They were released on R5 000 bail each,” said
Mgolodela. 

She added that the investigation revealed that the Casino
suffered an actual prejudice of R500 000 and was saved from a potential
loss of R10 million.

“After numerous postponements, the
duo was ultimately convicted yesterday, and were remanded in custody
pending sentencing to be handed out on August 29, 2022.

Hawk’s Provincial Head, Major General Obed Ngwenya welcomed the conviction.
