The Mayor of Umzimvubu Local Municipality, Councillor Zukiswa Ndevu, handed over a library to Cabazi location in KwaBhaca (Mount Frere), with the aim of encouraging youth to embark on reading.

To ensure that this was successful, the municipality worked together with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Alfred Nzo District Municipality. This was part of celebrating Library Week.

Ndevu said this library would help young people because they would spend their time gaining knowledge there, rather than spending it doing things that are against the law.

“We appeal to all the community members to donate books, so that we could enlarge our library,” said Ndevu. Umzimvubu Local Municipality spokesperson, Nokhanyo Zembe, said one of the reasons that modular libraries were placed within school premises was that they planted them to be protected.

“Only registered members of the library would be able to borrow books from the library, both learners and community members. To register, community members needed to bring an ID copy and proof of residence,” she said.

People and learners who like reading will now have a place to borrow books at Cabazi locality.
