The Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Councillor Vukile Mhlelembana, visited Ward 19 in the Umzimvubu Local Municipality to introduce contractors who would be building VIP toilets in the wards.

This is part of his programme of action of 100 days in office, where he has committed to “getting things done, getting things right and within the first 100 days in office”.

This project would create job opportunities and benefit 250 households. These households would be coming from Umntwana in KwaBhaca.

According to the statement, issued by the head of communications for the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Lixolile Petela, the project commenced in January and would take three months.

The work would be done by four contractors, Bavix Trading, whose contract was worth R687 620, Vanquish Solutions (PTY) Ltd, whose contract was valued at R676 500, Sbala Trading Enterprise, which received a R607 200 contract, and Power Damane Civil Construction, whose contract was worth R672 865.

“The completion of these VIP toilets would include: digging of the pit, building of the lining, assembling of the top structure, backfilling and compaction, cleaning, levelling and raking of all excessive soil around the structure,” he said.

Mhlelembana made a commitment that the time for service delivery project delays was over.

“As council, we are going to do our oversight meticulously. The time for projects that remain incomplete while we pay people has come to an end. There is going to be a drastic change on how we do things from now and henceforth. There shall be consequences for poor performance and people must either shape up or ship out. Let us continue to grow the Alfred Nzo District Municipality,” said Mhlelembana.
