The Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Vukile Mhlelembana, pledged the amount of R100 000 that he would raise to build classrooms at Cangci Comprehensive Technical High School at Mpisi Village in Mbizana, which could accommodate learners at this school.
According to the statement issued by head of communications in Alfred Nzo, Mhlelembana committed himself that within a month the money would reflect in the school’s account. He was accompanied by his mayoral committee member, Councillor Nathi Nqoko, who leads the Department of Local Economic Development in the district.
The event was joined by Winnie Madikizela Local Municipality Councillor, Lusapho Cambalala.
As part of the back to school campaign, Mhlelembana visited this school with an intention of assessing some of the challenges that were facing the school.
In the 2021 matric results, the school obtained the third position in Alfred Nzo East. He promised to work together with other stakeholders to improve the standard of education in the district, as education was a societal matter.
The main challenge in the school is the shortage of classrooms. The school has 930 learners and 32 educators.
The principal of Cangci Senior Secondary School, Zwelibanjiwe Njomi, said they were very happy because this donation would bring a big relief for parents and the school management. He said they had already hosted a meeting with parents, telling them about the problem with the shortage of classrooms.
“One of the service providers, Bonga Manci from Cuber Bus Service, donated blocks costing R10 000. That is why we have already started building the wall. Our school is in demand because of the matric pass rate,” said Njomi.
The chairperson for the school governing body (SGB), Temba Mqhanembila, said the pledge that was made by Mhlelembana and the donation by Manci had come as a pleasant surprise.
“Our school is in demand because it is the only technical school here. We are very happy because there will be a (positive) change now in our school,” said Mqhanembila.
