Eastern Cape Health MEC, Nomakhosazana Meth, has wished the matric class of 2021 well for their final exams.
She described the final examinations as a big moment in the learners’ lives. She encouraged learners not to panic but take their time when answering questions.
“If you don’t know the answer, move on to other questions and answer those first and go back to the ones you did not answer once you have answered the ones you are sure of answers for,” said Meth.
She added that those who don’t achieve the marks they want to achieve should not despair, but try again, so that they would be able to change their lives and those of their families through education.
Meth said she was confident that the Eastern Cape would continue getting quality passes, as the province had been achieving more bachelor pass marks than most other provinces, which enable learners to enrol at universities.
“We want more children to study towards being doctors, nurses, pharmacists and paramedics, so that we can continue building better communities together. Who knows, someone from the class of 2021 might just make a scientific breakthrough and discover a cure for HIV/Aids and other chronic illnesses. Good luck to each and every learner.
“We are sure you can make us and yourselves proud by reaping the rewards of your hard work.”
She also called on learners to get vaccinated in their thousands, to improve their chances of survival, should they contract the virus.
“We need to fight this vicious virus by protecting ourselves and loved ones and the best way of doing that is getting vaccinated and adhering to non-pharmaceutical safety measures. We cannot get tired of wearing masks, social distancing and regularly washing hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser. We can beat this if we all play our part.”
