TEAMS plying their trade in the Mnquma Local Football Association (Mnquma LFA) are expected to resume their league fixtures this weekend, at a variety of sport grounds around Mnquma.
This follows after league fixtures were postponed because Mnquma LFA were giving u/17 teams a chance to participate in the well-known Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup u/17 staged at Walter Sisulu University at Bika Campus from March 22 to 24.
The following week the association also gave teams an opportunity to go and compete in Easter tournaments hosted in different areas in and around Mnquma.
Last week teams were given another chance to prepare for the resumption of all the divisions in local promotion leagues, including u/13, u/15 and u/21 teams.
Speaking with the Mnquma LFA president, Mbongeni Matanga, about the resumption of promotion leagues, he said that all local promotion leagues are expected to return to action this weekend.
He said the u/21 promotion league is on its second round stage, the u/15 division is moving towards the ending with two league fixtures remaining, while the u/13s are still playing their first round of the season.
Furthermore, Matanga says that by June 16 all promotion leagues will be done and dusted, and after that they will prepare for the u/21 play-offs.
Matanga also took the time to acknowledge the contribution of the annual Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup in the development of soccer in Mnquma and surroundings areas.
He said that the Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup also has individual awards, and some players who did well during the tournament receive scholarships, such as Young Stars FC mid-fielder Yolatha Cosa (17) who was Player of the Tournament, and received a two-year scholarship from Centre of Excellence.
Matanga said he is hoping that this event will continue helping young players make their dreams come true in terms of studies, and becoming professional footballers one day.
Mnquma LFA is expected to issue the league fixtures for this weekend, before this Friday.
