The u/13 and u/19 teams of Mnquma local football association (Mnquma LFA) are expected to compete in BRA DZUU’S third edition soccer tournament, which will be held at Walter Sisulu University Bika Campus near Butterworth town, on Saturday, August 26 and on Sunday 27.

The aim of the event is to remember former Blackburn Rovers player, Dumentlango “Bra Dzu” Koyana, who made a significant contribution in sport development at Mnquma and throughout the country while he was still alive.

It is also meant to contribute to Mnquma sports development and encourage teams who are not part of organised football to come and be part of the Mnquma LFA, so that they can compete in a formal league.

On August 23, Mnquma LFA, together with tournament organisers, is expected to conduct a draw of the teams who will battle in the event.

One of the organisers, Wanda Mtwa, said that the tournament will be played by the teams who finished in the top 8 at the league in both age groups. Mtwa said that the teams who did well throughout the event would stand a chance of winning trophies, kit, gold medals and training equipment such as cones, balls and other things.

He highlighted that they are done with the preparations for the event, and now they are waiting for the draw of teams, plus kick-off of the tournament at WSU Bika Campus.

Furthermore, he said that by hosting the event annually, they wanted to keep Dumentlango “Bra Dzu” Koyana’s name alive in football circles, because he had assisted a lot of players in the Mnquma area to turn professional.

He concluded by saying everyone is invited to come and support soccer teams who will be competing in the event.

Over the weekend Mnquma LFA were supposed to crown its new league champions, FC Tshabalala, but due to the trophies not arriving in time, the presentation of those awards was postponed to an unannounced date.

When the presentation takes place next time, LFA is expected to crown all champions starting the u/13 age group to u/21 team.
