Police are asking for the public’s help to find a suspect who allegedly raped and stabbed a 15-year-old girl from Mount Ayliff over Easter weekend.
Officers from Mount Ayliff Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is looking for information from the public after the girl, from Cabazana locality in Mount Ayliff, was allegedly raped on April 15.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, the victim was found on the roadside near the forest at about 15:00 on the day of the incident.
“According to information, the young woman was on her way home when she was dragged to a nearby forest by an unknown man, where she was raped. It is also alleged that the suspect did not end there but continued to stab her in her upper body, which resulted in her losing her sight,” said Kinana.
He added that she was helped by a passer-by who called an ambulance which transported her to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. She is still recovering in hospital.
Kinana confirmed that police investigations are continuing. He said a case of rape and assault had been registered, but no arrest have been made at this stage.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, had expressed shock at the brutal incident and as such, has also ordered a team of highly trained investigators in Mt Ayliff to track, trace and find the perpetrator.
“This is an extreme act of callous criminality, and the perpetrator must be found to account for his actions,” said Mene.
