Local boxer, Siyamthanda Wophela, has officially revealed that he is returning to the boxing ring, and will be training under a new coach in Gauteng.

Wophela, who had a successful amateur career, has not fought a single match since turning professional back in 2020. At the time, Wophela was still based in the Eastern Cape.

His first professional match which was scheduled on December 19, 2020, in East London was cancelled three days before the match, due to COVID-19.

After that disappointment, the boxer from Bityi location decided to take a break from the sport.

Finally, in May last year, he joined Knockout Legend Boxing Gym as a personal trainer in Gauteng which is one of the most recognised gyms in Gauteng.

This past weekend, the boxer visited his ancestral and childhood area in Mthatha, where he confirmed to Mthatha Express that he is returning to the boxing ring.

“For now, the contract is not yet confirmed with the new manager, but I am hoping things will be sorted soon,” said Wophela.

“I am planning to bring back my dignity and people will see the Wophela they know. They will see a matured boxer since I will be competing as a professional.

“I am sure I’ll get a belt soon.”
