Meet the future of computer coding, young phenomenon, Natemba Sogoni (7), from Fortgale, Mthatha.

Natemba, a Grade 2 learner at H2 Primary, already has a collection of games and animated stories on his father’s laptop that he has created from scratch using the coding software that his father, Ketwa, introduced to him earlier this year.

He said his dream was to use coding to create his own computer games and use the skill in coding traffic lights and robots of the future among other things.

Natemba said:

“I like coding because it enables me to create anything using a computer while having fun doing it.”

His father, Ketwa Sogoni, added that introducing children to coding at a tender age could help them to be able to think critically and solve complex problems.

Ketwa has started a non-profit organisation (NPO) called BLK Python Coding, which he planned to use as a vehicle to introduce computing and other technologies to disadvantaged, disempowered, and underserved communities.

Natemba said he used to sit on his late grandfather’s lap while he worked on his laptop and used to fiddle with it, which influenced his love for computers from a very young age.
