Eastern Cape
Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Babalo Madikizela, has unveiled the R155 million
Mqanduli office precinct, a one-stop shop government departments’ offices
complex that will house four departments upon completion.

Madikizela
officially launched the flagship project, on July 26, during a sod turning
ceremony he attended at ERF 13 in Mqanduli where the 4 060 square meter project
will be constructed.

The office
precinct will house the Department of Education, Department of Social
Development, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and
the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform.

“The one stop shop
office precincts are meant to bring government services closer to our people
where they can access government services in one place. These developments also
unlock economic spin-offs that go far beyond bringing government services as
they have the potential to also attract investment to the towns where they are
located,” said Madikizela.

He further
confirmed that the main contractor has already been appointed and work on the
project will get underway within 14 days.

Madikizela added
the project will benefit local small businesses as 30 percent of the R155
million has been ring fenced for them.

The project will
also create hundreds of job opportunities for the locals.

The Mqanduli
Development Forum and the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality have both
welcomed the project.
