EXECUTIVE Mayor for Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Councillor Vukile Mhlelembana, welcomed the new Municipal Manager, Zamile Sikhundla, at a press conference that was held in the municipal offices in Maxesibeni (Mount Ayliff), last week.
Mhlelembana expressed his pleasure that the municipality had finally appointed a municipal manager who would be able to carry on with its work and would be able to hold management to account fully.
Councillor Nelisile Xolo had acted in the position for the past two months.
“We are pleased because we have been mandated by communities and are required by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa to deliver quality basic services to our communities.
“As such, we took an oath of office. As council, we undertook to carry out this mandate with diligence, dedication and honesty,” said Mhlelembana.
He added that appointing an equally capable and experienced management arm of government had become necessary to ensure that their people were served with speed and diligence.
He added that Sikhundla comes with a wealth of experience in local government and they are confident that his expertise will assist the municipality in achieving its strategic objectives and realising its vision.
“His term started from November 1, 2022, and will run for a period of five years until 2027.”
Sikhundla said that there are number of issues, like green economy and climate change, which need someone to think out of the box.
“Our youth is one of our biggest stakeholders and we are blessed because the President of South Africa has launched the Eastern Seaboard, of which we are major contributors.
“Alfred Nzo cannot have solutions on its own but, as government, we have to find the approach on how to deal with these issues that confront our communities.
“Obviously, as a person coming from the younger generation, who understands the issues that have been eating this generation I have also developed to another level. We have a lot of young structures that exist to assist the youth.”
