NTABANKULU Local Municipality, in the Chris Hani district, is continuing to support sports development, particularly in rural areas.
In December last year, Ntabankulu Local Municipality built a multi-purpose sports centre with the aim of contributing to sports development. The centre has a swimming pool inside, while outside there is a soccer field, tennis court and netball pitch.
The facilities were handed over to the Ntabankulu community.
Executive Mayor, Tsileng Sobuthongo, also recently handed over another soccer field and other sports facilities in the deep rural areas of Ntabankulu, in Cacadu Village Ward 11.
The sports facility boasts well engineered drainage and irrigation systems, proper walkways and driveways, parking lots, ablution facilities and fencing.
Speaking during the event, Sobuthongo said the municipality was consistent in ensuring that facilities of great stature were built in rural areas to facilitate social cohesion and development. She added that the conviction of the municipality in this regard was that, recreation facilities needed to be built where the people live, to ensure the adoption of good and positive cultures, the development of positive attitudes and deviation from unproductive activities.
In addition, she said they looked forward to playing a big role in sport development around Ntabankulu communities. – ANELE RAZIYA
