Some ABC Motsepe League clubs are starting to prepare for the new season by reinforcing their squads and technical teams.
Bizana Pondo Chiefs, from Bizana, has already prepared for the new season by recruiting new technical team members.
‘The Hunters’ as Pondo Chiefs is affectionately known in football circles, appointed a new coach and his assistant last week that will lead them in the upcoming season.
In a press statement that they issued regarding the appointment of their new technical team they said, “Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC is pleased to announce that Masixole ‘Scara’ Matiwane has been appointed to be head coach, while our long serving captain, Siyabonga ‘Siya’ Nzimande, has been appointed to be an assistant coach.
Matiwane is not new in football as he was the head coach of Zizwe United in the 2020/2021 season, assistant coach for Chippa United first team in the 2018/2019 season, head coach for Ikapa Sporting in the 2020/2021, and head coach for Happy Wanderers in the 2019/2020 season. He also has a CAF Coaching A & B licence.
The chairperson of the club, together with the club’s management, welcomed Matiwane.
“We are confident that he will fit in the team based on his experience in football.”
Former First National Division (NFD) side Pondo Chiefs is hoping that the new technical team will manage to turn things around as they are aiming at competing and winning the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League title this season so that they can have another opportunity to play in the national play-offs.
Last season they finished third in the league and this new technical team would be expected to improve from this performance.
