Newly elected Mnquma Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Tunyiswa Manxila-Nkamisa, has committed to ensuring continued stability within the municipality while prioritising good governance and accelerated service delivery.

Manxila-Nkamisa made the remarks shortly after being elected as Mnquma Local Municipality executive mayor for the next five-year local government term at an inaugural municipal council sitting on November 22.

“As the incumbent, top of my priority list is to continue with unity and stability of this municipality. Secondly, I will promote good governance and ensure that all the communities of Mnquma are active participants in the day-to-day affairs of this municipality.

“On service delivery matters, I want to further intensify infrastructure development, the resurfacing of rural and urban roads infrastructure, addressing the housing backlog and connecting more houses to the electricity grid,” Manxila-Nkamisa pledged.

“Critically, we will engage the district municipality to help us address some of the concerns around the provision of water and sanitation services,” she added.

The inaugural council sitting also elected Zibuthe Mnqwazi as council speaker, while former executive mayor, Sithembiso Ncetezo, was elected as council chief whip.

Mnquma Business Development Forum chairperson, Zukile Mbelani, said the business fraternity welcomed the newly installed leadership at Mnquma Local Municipality.

“We had a very good working relationship with the newly elected executive mayor in her previous role as mayoral committee member and we hope for continued harmonious working relations with her and wish her all the success in the new mayoral position,” Mbelani said.

“Our wish is for the new leadership to strive to create a conducive environment for businesses to operate through infrastructure investment that will attract new investment while also sustaining existing businesses within the Mnquma Local Municipality jurisdiction,” added Mbelani.

Manxila-Nkamisa, on Thursday last week, unveiled members of her mayoral committee as follows:

  • Xolisa Pupuma as budget and treasury directorate portfolio head
  • Zola Laviti as community services directorate portfolio head
  • Monica Qaba as infrastructural development directorate portfolio head
  • Sisa Matutu as strategic management directorate portfolio head
