Ngcobo bank consultant appears in court for fraud

Former Standard Bank consultant, Suleka Kona (41), has been released on warning by the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court following her brief appearance on Tuesday, July 26 on allegations of fraud.


Former Standard Bank consultant, Suleka Kona (41), has been released on warning by the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court following her brief appearance on Tuesday, July 26 on allegations of fraud.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said this is subsequent to Kona’s arrest by the Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks for allegations of fraud on the same day.

According to Mgolodela, it is alleged that in 2016 when Kona was employed at the Standard Bank located in Ngcobo as a proactive consultant, she fraudulently opened revolving credit accounts in the names of the both late Thembinkosi Dunga and late Nomasango Blossom Lugayeni.

“When these accounts were opened both Dunga and Lugayeni were already deceased. Kona is reported to have made withdrawals from the two credit accounts for her own benefit. As a result of the suspect’s suspicious fraudulent activities, Standard Bank is reported to have suffered prejudice to a total amount of R83 000,” said Mgolodela.

She added that Standard Bank Opened a case of fraud in Ngcobo Community Service Centre which was later transferred to the Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for further probing. 

“Kona made her first appearance before the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on the same day and was released on warning. The case was remanded to August 2022 for copies of the docket.”
