A 69-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 13-year-old daughter at Emaxelegwini locality in Ngqamakhwe on Tuesday, November 15.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said according to information, it is alleged that on Tuesday around midday, an argument between a couple at their home in Ngqamakhwe resulted in the alleged strangulation of the deceased, and the subsequent assault of another granddaughter, aged three.
“The teenager was declared dead at the scene. The suspect was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed an interim protection order pending against him, which is scheduled to be finalized in court next week,” said Nkohli.
Khula Children’s Organisation director Petros Majola said they continue doing all they can to try and put an end to gender based violence, femicide and violation of children’s rights.
“We continue to receive these very shocking stories, but that does not mean we are not working; it only means they need more resources to do more.”
“We call for no bail. We also urge the justice system to fast-track these cases because these delays in the investigation hurt the victims. The sooner the case gets finalised, the better so that a victim can recover,” said Majola.
