Community members from Mthwaku Administrative Area are looking forward to a ceremony to welcome their new traditional leader, Chief Mboneleli Mkatshane, in Ngqamakhwe today.

According to the spokesperson for Amahlubi Traditional Council, Vuyani Ndzuba, the community is hoping that there would be an improvement in their lives because Mkatshane has good leadership skills.

“We know that he is someone who is very humble.

“He will manage to work with his community because he likes his people.

“As he would be commemorated today, we know that there will be new developments and he will be good in leading transformation, particularly when it comes to youth,” said Ndzuba.

He added that their area had a high rate of youth who were abusing alcohol and drugs.

He said they hoped that Mkatshane would support them to ensure that they receive healing in terms of their mental health. He confirmed that they were expecting five traditional leaders from the Mnquma Local Municipality area, who would show their support for the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Mkatshane said he would use the opportunity he had been given to bring development to his community.

He added that after Chief Lizo Mkatshane passed away, they had struggled to get service delivery.

“We do not have water or access roads, and unemployment is another of our problems because we did not have a leader. Now that I am leading this village, I will come with the changes.

“I will make sure that we have mobile clinics so that my people do not have to travel long distances when going to health facilities,” said Mkatshane.

He added that he would make sure that there were early childhood development centres in his area and that the youth have something to do to keep themselves busy.
