Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has paid tribute to the late Nkosi Xolile Ndevu, of the Imiganu Traditional Council in Elliotdale, who passed away at the Life Saint Mary’s Private Hospital in Mthatha on July 5, after a short illness, aged 62.

Nqatha said Ndevu was instrumental in the development of his people and served his people with great humility and diligence, while extending his condolences to the Ndevu family and the entire traditional leadership institution.

“It is very sad that we learn of the passing of Chief Ndevu and, once again, we have lost one of the key dependable leaders whose passing has left a void in our hearts.

“I wish to convey our condolences to the Ndevu family and pay our respect to a man that, through his work, has registered that he lived,” said Nqatha.

The Eastern Cape House of Traditional and Khoi San Leaders also paid tribute to the late leader.

“The Eastern Cape House of Traditional and Khoi San (ECHOTKL) leadership has learnt with shock of the untimely death of Nkosi Xolile Ndevu, the newly elected chairperson of the Amathole District Local House,” said ECHTOKL chairperson, Chief Mpuamalanga Gwadiso.

“Nkosi Ndevu is one of the seasoned traditional leaders to be produced by our province and he departs this earth with a wealth of knowledge having served in different traditional leadership structures namely, CONTRALESA, EC House, National House, and as representative of the late King Zwelonke Sigcawu. He has been a beacon of hope within the traditional community, and we are poorer without him,” Gwadiso added.

The ANC in the Eastern Cape said the untimely passing of Ndevu was a loss to history and a fountain of knowledge that will leave a void in traditional leadership circles.

Ndevu’s funeral service will take place in Mkatazo Administrative Area, Elliotdale, tomorrow, July 15.
