NOTHINTWA Ladies’ FC players are impressed with their performance so far in the league, compared with previous seasons.
The team from Mqanduli is competing against WSU Ladies, Coastal Ladies and Jubase Academy, in the SAFA OR Tambo Women Regional League.
The team was formed in 2011 and the purpose was to prevent teenage pregnancy and fight crime in the rural areas of Mqanduli.
The team captain, Sibabalwe Ngcape (23), who started playing for Nothintwa Ladies in 2013, said that players now understand the importance of football in their lives.
“In previous seasons, we were not serious as players, not even understanding football.
“We thought that football was only meant for boys, but now we’ve grown to the point that we understand the importance of football.
“Training hard and passion for the sport helped us a lot this season.
“We were able to communicate as players and we were targeting first position this season. Unfortunately we haven’t made it to first position, as things stand,” she said.
Ngcape said she hoped that they would make it to the play-offs next season. She said their vision, as players, was to see this team at least playing in the Sasol League.
“We want a new challenge now, as Nothintwa Ladies, and we have kids here who we want to grow in this sport, so that they understand the importance of sport and can build their future through sport.”
