The Nyandeni Amateur Boxing Organisation has started programmes to revive amateur boxing in the rural areas of Nyandeni Municipality.

As part of reviving the sport, three months ago they elected a new structure of the organisation to take over the baton.

The structure includes Bulelani Magingxa (chairperson), Mxolisi Ngongo (deputy chairperson), Siyabonga Nyengule (secretary), and Lundi Zali (PRO).

The organisation will host an amateur boxing tournament at Ntlaza in Libode on July 16, and the winners from the tournament will proceed to regional and provincial boxing tournaments.

Nyengule said that amateur boxing clubs were working under extremely difficult conditions as they were struggling to get sponsors.

“Here we do not have a hall to host boxing games; there is no boxing ring and boxing clubs are also struggling in terms of transportation,” Nyengule said.

Nyengule added that they had already written to Nyandeni Municipality on May 18, for intervention.

The organisation also recently hosted a tournament and it was attended by Akhona Joni and Viwe Mdletyeni, both from the OR Tambo Boxing Organisation.
