The high rate of young people who are using drugs and alcohol led the members of The Rising of the Remnant Organisation to host an awareness campaign at Cuba Township in Butterworth last week.

The founder for The Rising of the Remnant Organisation, evangelist Noluyolo Mapuma, said her organisation was mobilising young people from different churches and different communities to take church as one of the places they could run to when they are facing problems.

“I was very worried when I saw young people, at the age 15, having babies and to see that they just don’t care about life at all. The worst part is they dropped out of school.

“People used to run to church when they were facing challenges, but now it seems as if they don’t care about what is happening,” said Mapuma.

She added that she was working with other youth pastors to ensure that they reach young people.

She said that they recently hosted an event where they discussed mental health, substance abuse, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Mapuma said they also gave the youth time to ask questions, to ensure that they understood what had been discussed.

She confirmed that they would host the same initiative in Peddie, George and Knysna.
