The founder of Bright Future Academy, Babalwa Mtumtum, will be hosting a parents’ seminar in Mthatha next month, with the aim of equipping other parents about how to look after a child who has certain challenges.

“Since I am doing programmes that are focusing on children, such as extra classes, aftercare and a homework centre, I have realised that some of the parents are having problems whereby it is hard for them to accept if their children have challenges,” said Mtumtum.

She said that she was one of those parents who had the same problem when her daughter, Dr Zama Mtumtum-Ntseke, was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 12.

Mtumtum said she did not know what to do and where to start. She said this seminar would help a lot because she would be sharing a stage with her daughter.Other speakers include leading revenue assurance specialist, Nomaxabiso Nkula, who will be discussing balancing work and life, and occupational therapist, Portia Hlengisa, who will be talking more about parenting for differently abled children.

“Some of the parents need support and if he or she is having a child who is facing a challenge it becomes hard for them to balance life,” added Mtumtum.

The event will be held on March 21 and the venue is yet to be confirmed. Tickets for this event are sold at R300 and bookings can be made with Mtumtum on 081 725 6463.
