Police probe murder, attempted murder cases following shooting in Tsomo




The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General
Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the activation of a 72-hour mobilisation plan to
trace and find at least three suspects who opened fire on a taxi traveling with
five occupants.

Two passengers were fatally wounded while another two
sustained gunshot wounds near Elangeni Forest in Tsomo on Sunday, September 25.

“Just after
midnight, it is alleged that at least three unknown armed men emerged from
bushes in Elangeni Forest, Tsomo and opened fire on a Toyota Quantum that was
travelling with five occupants.”

“The motive for the shooting is currently unknown,
however the circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the
investigation.  The names of the deceased persons are still withheld until
the conclusion of the identification process,” said police spokesperson Warrant
Officer Majola Nkohli

Police are investigating two counts of murder and two
attempted murder cases. No arrests have been made at this stage and the
investigation continues.
