The founder of Ibuyambo Yamampondo Non-Profit-Making Project, Naledi Ndamase, has announced that the project will celebrate Youth Month by hosting a music festival, with the aim of reviving the Mpondo culture, in Libode Eco Park in Libode, on June 18.

It will start at 10:00 and will continue until late.

Ndamase said she started this project in 2019, with the aim of promoting the culture of Amampondo.

She said that, nowadays, the youth know very little about the heritage and culture of Amampondo.

She said even when they wear their traditional attire, they use the ones that belong to AmaXhosa.

“By hosting this festival, we are promoting our culture. It will be the third time we are hosting this kind of event.

“We hosted it at Nyandeni Great Place, where we also donated winter packs to the Mzomtsha Children’s Home.

“We then donated food parcels to a few families in that area in 2019. We then hosted an awareness campaign about gender-based violence,” said Ndamase.

She added that they hosted the same event in Libode Park in 2021, where they donated 150 school shoes to learners who are taking part in virginity testing (inkciyo).

“She confirmed that these learners had come from different schools around Libode.

“Our theme for this year is celebrating Youth Day through culture and heritage. We are expecting the traditional groups who would be participating on this day.”

Some of these groups include Thuluzobona Traditional Group, Zitulele Traditional Group, and Thandanani Traditional Group.

Other artists include Anga Makubalo, Ikhona Zwide, Dalikhaya Zimbola, known as Master G, Xolisile Ndziweni, Umntwano Mgquba and Onguye Ukumkanikazi Kama-Mpukuse.
