FC Jacaranda’s troops, who were crowned champions of the SAFA OR Tambo SAB League inland stream this past Sunday, will lock horns against coastal stream champions, Champion FC, from Lusikisiki, in a regional derby decider match on April 24.
In October 2021, during the regional Nedbank Cup decider match at WSU Stadium, Champion FC beat FC Jacaranda 2-1.
At the time, FC Jacaranda players could not hold back their tears and now the Qokolweni squad are aiming at revenge.
FC Jacaranda finished this season on a high note, after breaking a record by scoring 41 points in the inland stream, while Champion FC finished coastal stream with 33 points.
In their last game of the season this past Sunday FC Jacaranda won 3-0 against City Strikers FC, while Champion FC won 3-1 against 2010 Storm Breakers FC in their coastal stream final match.
The regional decider match is not going to be easy for FC Jacaranda, as the Lusikisiki troops are also aiming at retaining their winning spirit.
The shocking part about the OR Tambo SAB league is that the last season’s champions from both streams, Mighty Eagle’s FC and 2010 Storm Breakers FC, did not retain their titles this year.
The deciding match between the two rivals, FC Jacaranda and Champion FC, will be played at the Rotary Stadium in Ngangelizwe location in Mthatha on Sunday, April 24.
The winner between the SAFA OR Tambo SAB League teams will proceed to the provincial play-off to compete against champions from different regions and the provincial winner will book their spot in the ABC Motsepe League.
SAB League managers who spoke to Mthatha Express described the upcoming decider match as a derby, stating that it’s not going to be an easy game for either team.
