A consignment of blankets and face masks from South African first lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe have been donated to the Dr Grace Sangoni Memorial Centre, a centre for the elderly and disabled, situated in Ncambedlana, Mthatha.
The donation to the centre was delivered on August 26 by non-governmental organisation Right to Care, which Motsepe had approached to help her in identifying old age homes and care facilities to benefit from the blankets and masks. The blankets and masks were from a network of first ladies from the African Union (AU) that Motsepe is part of and are being distributed to old age homes and care facilities throughout South Africa.
“The day of the donation was a bittersweet day for us because it was the same day that Dr Grace Sangoni, whom the centre is named after, was hospitalised and subsequently died five years ago. We thank the first lady and Right to Care for the generous donation which means a lot to us and is an encouragement in our work of caring for the elderly and people with disabilities,” said Dr Grace Sangoni Memorial Centre manager, Loyiso Vili.
Right to Care chief technical specialist, Precious Robinson said the organisation was honoured to have been involved with Motsepe’s initiative.
“It is an honour for us to work with Dr Motsepe on this important initiative and we are pleased to have helped support Dr Grace Sangoni Memorial Centre residents with these essential items for winter and to support COVID-19 prevention,” Robinson said.
