SASOL League side Executive Ladies’ chairman, Mawethu Nama, is delighted after his team was named Best Sports Team of the Year at an awards event hosted by Alfred Nzo Community Radio at Casino in Bizana on Friday.

Five teams from various sporting codes were nominated by Alfred Nzo Community Radio to compete in the Best Sports Team of the Year category at their awards event.

The clubs included Sasol League side Executive Ladies, Matatiele Netball Team, and three ABC Motsepe League teams: FC Siyanda, Amaxesibe FC, and Sinenkani FC.

These teams were nominated by listeners to vie against each other in the Alfred Nzo Community Radio Awards.

Prior to the announcement of the winner, listeners were given the opportunity to vote for the team they believed deserved to win the Best Sports Team of the Year award from October 11 until November 15.

On Friday, at Casino in Bizana, Alfred Nzo Community Radio announced Sasol League Inland Stream champions Executive Ladies as the winners, as they received more votes than the other teams. Club chairman, Mawethu Nama, was present to accept the award.

In an interview after receiving the award, Nama expressed his happiness with winning the Best Sports Team of the Year award and thanked all the listeners who voted for them.”

I want to say thank you to all the listeners who voted for us. This award reminds me of my mother, who always told me that one day my team would bring me happiness and joy,” said Nama, who was visibly happy.

He mentioned that before the event, he was confident they stood a good chance of winning the award, even though they were competing against male teams playing in the ABC Motsepe League.

His team played the whole season without a single defeat but failed to qualify for the Sasol League National Promotion Playoffs when they were beaten by Gqeberha team, Sophakama Ladies, in an Eastern Cape Sasol League decider game.

Nama also congratulated his technical team and players for their efforts throughout the 2024 season, where they ended the Sasol League Inland Stream at the top of the log standings.
