The Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court released fraud accused, Nontyatyambo Mgoqi (43), and Ntsikelelo Tiwani (61), on bail of R500 each on December 8.

Hawks spokesperson, Yolisa Mgolodela, said members from the serious commercial crime team responded to the information received from a South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) official, based in Mthatha, about someone applying for a disability grant with fraudulent documents.

She said Mgoqi reportedly produced a medical report, alleged to have been issued by an audiologist from Mthatha General Hospital.

“During the interview with SASSA’s appointed doctor, as a norm, it was suspected that the medical report was fraudulent.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Hawks, upon arrival, established that Mgoqi was allegedly assisted by her companion, Tiwani, and paid about R1 500 to have both the documents drafted,” said Mgolodela.

He confirmed that both suspects were arrested on the scene. The matter was remanded to February 13, 2022.
