The director of the Albertina Nontsikelelo Sisulu Science Centre, Pumzile Mashalaba, has appealed to teachers to ensure that they visit this centre, which is based in Cofimvaba, to see what their learners could learn from it.
Mashalaba said they should make maths and science enjoyable so that learners could have more interest in these subjects.
He said the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology and Innovation (DSTI) hosted a National Science Week event, last week.
“The aim of this initiative is to excite youth with maths, science and technology (MST) innovations earlier in their academic life and growth.
“Additionally, the initiative also intends to encourage the youth into MST subjects and spread awareness,” said Mashalaba. He added that the schools were expected to take part in this initiative. Even though this was held in this centre, it was celebrated even in other districts.
“We hope that this initiative will influence our children to treat maths and science in a different way and enjoy it.”
He said they were trying to encourage the scientists of tomorrow, so that they could have more graduates in this category.
Mashalaba added that they had many exhibitions that showed more about MST.
“We are hoping that these learners have seen a lot of things that are not available in their schools. This also assists because our learners would obtain good results.”
