Second shot at ECMAs for singer

AFRO-SOUL musician, Mphozisi Qalekiso, from Mevana location in Willowvale, has been nominated for the second time in the Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAs).


AFRO-SOUL musician, Mphozisi Qalekiso, from Mevana location in Willowvale, has been nominated for the second time in the Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAs).

He has been nominated as the artist of the year and best Afropop musician.

Qalekiso started his music career as the backing vocalist of gospel artists, Bunono and Anathi Mxokwana, a few years ago.

“I used to sing alto on their first album, called Masibambisaneni Makholwa.

“This year, I relocated to Franschhoek with the aim of studying.

“I then embarked on my music journey as an independent singer.

“I recorded my first CD in 2019, but unfortunately it did not do well. Then I recorded a single in 2020 titled Siyanqanda,” said Qalekiso.

He is one of the artists who have performed in the Tenza Beach Music Festival, which takes place every December at Tenza Beach in Willowvale. Qalekiso appealed to his supporters to vote for him.
