HOLLYWOODBETS Super League side, Thunderbirds Ladies, in partnership with Hollywoodbets, donated R8 000 to NGO, We Care, in Butterworth on Wednesday.
The donation followed after the women’s league’s official sponsor, Hollywoodbets, requested all female teams who were competing in the Hollywoodbets Super League to identify non-governmental organisations which were led by women in their communities, so that they could donate R5 000 to recognise them during Women’s Month.
After the request, Hollywoodbets also launched a campaign in which the official sponsor donated R1 000 per goal scored by each soccer team during Women’s Month, in addition to the R5 000 that would be donated to the chosen charity organisation or NGO.
Unfortunately, Butterworth-based Thunderbirds Ladies did not play many games during Women’s Month.
They played three games and they scored three goals in these encounters.
During these goals they managed to get R3 000 and Hollywoodbets added R5 000 to make the R8 000 that was donated to the We Care organisation.
Team manager, Gugu Diko, said they were aiming at scoring as many goals as they could during the campaign but unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, their plans were disturbed as games were stopped and they resumed only in the middle of August. They managed to play only a few games.
Speaking about why they chose the We Care NGO, Diko said they chose this organisation because it was doing a wonderful job throughout the communities in Mnquma, assisting people who were living with different diseases.
