Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League Champions, SA Spear of the Nation FC has apologised to their supporters after they failed to gain promotion to GladAfrica Championship Division.
SA Spear of the Nation FC from Bizana was among the nine teams who were competing in ABC Motsepe League national promotion play-offs for two places in the GladAfrica Championship division for next season.
The Eastern Cape team went into the tournament that was hosted in North West last week, hoping that they would do well and reach the final so that they could be automatically promoted, but things did not go as planned. In their group A fixtures, Spear of the Nation FC played to a 2-2 draw against Magesi FC from Limpopo. In the second game they won 3-1, beating Real Madrid from Northern Cape, and qualified for the semi-finals.
Their semi-final game was very important, because it was a ticket for the Bizana team to book their place in the GladAfrica Championship Division for next season should they win, but their opponents of the day, MM Platinum FC, denied them that opportunity.
MM Platinum FC, from Gauteng, defeated Nation FC by 1-0 to kill their dream of playing in the GladAfrica Championship next season.
After this defeat, the Bizana-based team thanked all their supporters who supported them throughout the season and in last week’s event and they also apologised via their Facebook page.
The club also confirmed that next week they will return to their training ground preparing for the new season in the ABC Motsepe League.
MM Platinum FC were crowned as the new champions of ABC Motsepe League national promotion play-offs after they defeated Mages FC 1-0 at North West over the weekend. Both finalists will gain promotion to the GladAfrica Championship.
