Sports anchor and commentator, Okuhle Kezile, is on a mission to break down the cycle of inequality in rural areas through sport.
The multitalented sport personality, from Gqubeni location in Mqanduli, officially started working in radio in 2016, after completing his broadcasting studies at Victory Education Group College in Pretoria and he has never looked back.
In addition to his sports updates on UCR FM’s Afternoon Takeover show, which airs between 15:00 and 18:00 during the week, he is also involved in many community projects visiting schools and encouraging learners to work hard.
His sports talent and hard work were also identified by True FM, which falls under the SABC, where he reported on local sports stories from 2020 until March 2022.
He started covering amateur games during his childhood in the dusty streets of Gqubeni.
While he was doing his broadcast studies in 2015, in Pretoria, he got an opportunity to do commentary during a PSL match between football giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Okuhle is also working at Media Wise (a podcast company) as presenter.
Okuhle believes there is still a lot needed to be done to break down the inequality in rural areas, stating that sport plays a fundamental role in breaking the cycle of inequality.
Okuhle believes his sports initiative can lure businesspeople to notice the hunger facing the young stars in their villages, as some of the kids in rural areas go to bed and school with empty stomachs.
