AN official in Mnquma Local Football Association (Mnquma LFA), Mbongeni Matanga, and Eastern Cape Sport Council executive member, Simpiwe Tsipa, are happy about the current contribution in sport development in Mnquma and surrounding areas.
This follows recent events where DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United general manager, Luxolo Matikinca, worked together with Mnquma LFA where they hosted the u/16 Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup Tournament.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in the province, in partnership with MultiChoice, handed over a multi-purpose sport court to schools in Mnquma at an event hosted at Butterworth High School.
Mnquma LFA and the Sport Council are delighted about these recent events, as they saw them as contributing to sport development, particularly in a place like Mnquma which is dominated by villages.
Speaking during the Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup Tournament, Tsipa encouraged all sporting codes to work together to help the kids make their sports dreams come true.
He said by keeping youth active in sport, it means youth in Mnquma and surroundings would stay far away from drugs and alcohol.
Furthermore, Tsipa said there is a lot of talent in Mnquma communities, but the kids ended up using drugs because there is not enough support, like sport equipment and other items that are related to sport.
He concluded by saying, he applauds the contribution of the founder of Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup Tournament, Matikinca, who made a significant contribution to Mnquma teams by giving them training equipment and other items.
Tsipa also hopes that businesses will come to the party and contribute to sport.
Matanga, who is a Mnquma LFA official, said he was confident that the contribution of the equipment from Matikinca to LFA teams will motivate the players.
He said they expect more people to come and invest in sport so that they could continue producing professional players like they did withformer TS Galaxy goalkeeper, Ludwe Mpakumpaku, and others.
Matanga concluded by saying they are working to ensure young players are getting proper development assistance so that they can become better players soon.
