St John’s College soccer coach in America for coaching clinic

Mawande Mditshwa, who is a soccer coach from St John’s College in Mthatha, is among the top coaches from various countries across the globe who attended a coaching clinic in the United States of America.


Mawande Mditshwa, who is a soccer coach from St John’s College in Mthatha, is among the top coaches from various countries across the globe who attended a coaching clinic in the United States of America.

The pride of sport development at schools Football EC, Mditshwa left Mthatha on April 27, and he was escorted by a motorcade to Mthatha Airport.

On the day, students came out in their numbers to congratulate their teacher for his sterling job.

He will be in Chicago, Detroit, and Seattle in America for 14 days.

He will also visit the University of Washington for leadership training and University of Portland for the Character project and is expected to land in the Eastern Cape on May 15.

The coaches from various countries are doing development coaching and instructing and are conducted by Social Exchange and Opportunity in South Africa.

Mditshwa said the plan of the coaching clinic in America is to develop EC school football and coaches across the globe. Mditshwa has been a soccer coach in St John’s College for 12 years now coaching the school soccer team.

He told Mthatha Express that school sport plays a vital role in sharpening students’ minds.

Mditshwa added that he would be very happy if the Department of Education could increase sports time in schools.

“It could be much better if they can play sport two days a week,” said Mditshwa.
