The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) hosted a Schools Rationalisation and Realignment Programme (SRRP) summit at the Mandla Makupula Learning Institute in East London.
The aim of the summit was to improve SRRP conceptualisation through the clarification of roles and responsibilities of all role players, internal and external to the ECDoE.
The summit also sought to ensure the alignment of the programme to policies that interface with SRRP implementation, such as transport policy.
Improving quality education through adequate schools resourcing and improved stakeholder relations was also part of the summit discussions.
Eastern Cape MEC for Education, Fundile Gade, said to achieve quality education, they needed adequate resources in terms of infrastructure, capacity building for their personal and technology data.
“These schools are not only valuable for knowledge production, but they are also seen as centres of hope because with a school, government also has a responsibility to bring other added resources and services to a community,” said Gade.
Some of the outcomes that were expected in this summit were to strengthen relations between the ECDoE and its stakeholders that would enhance cooperation towards improved service delivery and to provide a profound insight to various stakeholders regarding the SRRP and its mission to change the education landscape for achieving desired educational outcomes.
“[Our aim is for] improved capacity for various chief directors of state departments to promote collective participation in education service delivery such that learners and parents regain confidence in public education system.”
