The swift and tactical response by police officers resulted in the death of a murder suspect following a shootout with the police in Ngqeleni yesterday, October 9.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, one of the suspects, who is believed to have been involved in the murder of a policeman, Warrant Officer Khangelani Nomatiti (59), in Ngqeleni last week, was fatally wounded after he allegedly opened fire on the police
“It is alleged that members were acting on information about one of the suspects, who was said to be hiding inside a homestead in Mqwangqweni locality in Ngqeleni. On police arrival at the scene, it is said that they were met by a hail of bullets, and they tactically responded, resulting in the death of this suspect,” said Nkohli.
He added that it is further said one of the items seized from the scene was the stolen firearm (from the deceased policeman).
He confirmed that an inquest docket was opened, and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) was also summoned to the scene for further investigation.
