Suspect sought for murder of elderly woman

South African Police Service (SAPS) detectives are searching for a suspect after an elderly woman’s (78) body was found by her family on Sunday night in Dutywa.

detectives are searching for a suspect after an elderly woman’s (78) body was
found by her family on Sunday night, May 29 at about 17:30 in KwaTshweni Location,
Dutywa. 

It is alleged that her family
left her alone on Friday and went to another location for a family gathering. She was last
seen by neighbours on the previous day collecting sheep from the grazing camp.

On Sunday afternoon at about 17:30 the family arrived and discovered her body
lying on the sponge mattress. They immediately alerted the
police. 

“A case of murder is under
investigation and no arrests effected yet. The circumstances surrounding the
incident forms part of the investigation. The deceased sustained serious
injuries on the upper body. It has not yet been established what type of
instrument was used in the commission of this serious crime,” said Eastern Cape
SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana.  

“The Provincial Commissioner,
Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has expressed shock at yet another
incident involving the killing of a woman. She immediately ordered the police
to trace, track and arrest the perpetrator of this heinous crime,” Kinana
added.
