Quick response by members attached to the District Task Team led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 34 and 52 years in Mthatha for armed robbery in a business place and possession of suspected stolen property.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, in the early hours of the morning of January 19, it is alleged that five unknown men entered into a business place and forced the security guard at gunpoint to close the shop’s door.

“They then took the generator and loaded it in a gateway vehicle that was parked outside,” said Matyolo.

Matyolo further said that the arrest followed after police members were alerted about a complaint of armed robbery.

“The police patrolled the CBD to look out for the described vehicle,” said Matyolo.

“On Eagle Street, they spotted the vehicle with only one occupant who after an investigation took them to a house in Ntilini locality, Sibangweni A/A where the generator was hidden.”

Matyolo said that a thorough investigation guided police to a house where they arrested some of the other suspects who were involved in the robbery.

“The other two suspects are still at large and police are still tracing them,” said Matyolo.

Matyolo said that the vehicle (Nissan X-Trail) that was used in the commission of crime was confiscated by the police and the trio is due to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate Court on January 22.
