The AmaXhosa Kingdom honoured excellence in education by launching an annual Amaxhosa Education Awards, with the aim of rewarding teachers who did very well in their jobs.

The event was held at King Hintsa FET College in Dutywa, last week.

According to the organiser of this event, Queen Nonzuzo Sigcau from the Amaxhosa Kingdom, there were 25 teachers from primary and secondary schools who were rewarded.

She said the aim was to motivate them and introduce school programmes they are doing, as the Amaxhosa Kingdom, to support education.

“We are having Inkciyo and indoni, where we motivate learners to stay away from things that could disturb them in their school work,” said Sigcau.

Sigcau added that they also donated some seedlings to be used for the school gardens.

One of the teachers from Nozizwe Primary School in Willowvale, Noluthando Mgedezi, said they had received a certificate of recognition.

“We received this certificate because of working together with this kingdom in bringing better change in developing learners.

“We were very happy and shocked at the same time because we did not know that our work was recognised by leaders,” said Mgedezi.
