CITY Lads from Gqeberha, and University of Fort Hare FC from Alice, have slightly improved their performance in Hollywoodbets Super League after they played well in their recent fixtures.

Meanwhile, another Eastern Cape-based team, Thunderbirds Ladies from Butterworth, is still struggling to improve their performance since the start of the season.

Last month all three Eastern Cape teams who play in the Hollywoodbets Super League were sitting at the bottom of the log.

After last week Wednesday’s league fixtures things changed slightly when University of Fort Hare FC won the Eastern Cape Derby by beating their neighbours, Thunderbirds Ladies, 5–0 at home in Alice.

On the same day, City Lads were demolished by defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, 7–1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

On Sunday afternoon, Gqeberha team, City Lads, bounced back when they beat the KwaZulu-Natal team, Lindelani Ladies, 2–1 away, to register their third victory of the season.

On the other side, University of Fort Hare FC failed to register victories when they were beaten 4–1 at Alice by mid-table team, Richmond United, in a league clash on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Thunderbirds Ladies managed to register their first point in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season, when they played to a 3–3 draw against their fellow bottom side, Durban Ladies’ FC, at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane over the weekend.

After the weekend results, Thunderbirds Ladies have remained rooted at the bottom, in 16th place, of the league table with one point after 11 games.

Other EC teams that play in the super league have moved slightly away from the relegation zone as City Lads are currently in 12th position with 11 points after 11 games, followed by University of Fort Hare FC with 10 points in 10 games.

Durban Ladies and Lindelani Ladies are sitting above the Butterworth team.

This Saturday the Eastern Cape teams will have another great opportunity to improve their log standings when Thunderbirds Ladies will host third-place side UWC FC at Mdantsane.

On Sunday afternoon University of Fort Hare FC will entertain struggling bottom side, Lindelani Ladies, at Alice, while City Lads will host tricky JVW FC in Gqeberha.

In these important league fixtures EC-based teams are expected to use their home advantage to collect maximum points, particularly the Butterworth team who have yet to register a win this season.
