“MY long-term goal is to be written down as one of the greatest footballers. I come from a struggling background, growing up in Walmer Links in Gqeberha, but thanks to my mother who raised me up to this far, and now I am chasing my dream to become a great footballer,” said Jordan Thomson (15), one of the future young stars.

Thomson was speaking to Mthatha Express when he was in Mthatha to participate in a local game. He plays for Alpha MSD FC in Matatiele, Eastern Cape, and in September is expected to participate in the national trials in Johannesburg.

Two weeks ago he was among hundreds of young footballers from across the province trying their luck during the SAFA Academy trials held in Mthatha.

“Football has been my life since I was a little kid; it has always been my dream. My short-term goal for 2024-2025 is to make the national trials that I have in Johannesburg in September 2024. My goal is to play for an academy before the end of this year,” said Thomson.

“I am a big believer in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I see myself playing in the PSL in the next three years, without a doubt.

“My long-term goal is to be written down as one of the greatest. With the help of my coaches, I am where I am today, and believe I will be getting much further in my future.”

Thomson said his role model in football is the Real Madrid FC forward, Vinicius Junior.

“I believe he brings something to football that makes it enjoyable., My role model in life is my mother, Sharon Thomson, who has raised me and my brother by herself, and has done a very good job. She is the reason I am the man I have become today as she taught me to never give up in life,” said Thomson.

“My story is not like most other people. I was an under-privileged kid who came from very humble beginnings. I found peace in the beautiful game and it kept me away from all the bad things in the world. My name will be on television screens one day.”

The young star believes that he will be the next big thing in South African football.
