Three suspects have been arrested following a business robbery shootout at
Ngcingwane Location, outside Dutywa on Saturday, October 22.
According to police
spokesperson Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, it is alleged that at least five men entered a shop and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, tobacco and
cellphones.
“The sixth suspect was waiting in a getaway vehicle. The owner
alerted armed response who gave chase. A shoot ensued between the
security officials and the suspects, leaving a 31-year-old suspect fatally
wounded,” said Mawisa.
She added that the other suspects fled the scene with the
security and police close on their heels.
“Three suspects were
arrested in a nearby village. Two firearms, 14 rounds of ammunition and a magazine were confiscated, including the BMW vehicle that was used in the robbery.”
The
suspects aged between 23 and 25 were charged for business
robbery, possession of prohibited firearms and illegal possession of
ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon.
