Thunderbirds Ladies continue poor run of form

Thundernirds Ladies from Butterworth have suffered yet another heavy defeat in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Thunderbirds Ladies from Butterworth have suffered yet another heavy defeat in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

In recent weeks, Thunderbirds Ladies were beaten 5-1 by defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at home and also 5-2 away to Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies.

Over the weekend, once again, Coach Thembalethu Apleni’s team suffered another heavy defeat when they lost 5-1 away against University of Johannesburg FC.

This result means the Eastern Cape team is still rooted in eighth position on the league table, with 19 points from 12 games.

Defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ FC, are still leading the league table with 27 points after 10 games they played so far.

Apleni’s team will be hoping to bounce back next month when the league fixtures resume, as for now the games are suspended because of the African Women’s Cup event that will take place next month.

When the Butterworth team returns to action on July 30, it will host struggling side, Tsunami Queens FC, and it will be an opportunity for Apleni’s troops to collect maximum points so that they can improve in league table standings.

Their neighbours, City Lads FC, from Gqeberha, are still at the bottom of the league table after they lost 2-1 at home against Ma Indies Ladies over the weekend.

Currently, City Lads FC are sitting in 14th place with five points from 11 games.

Both Eastern Cape teams who are participating in Hollywoodbets Super league are expected to work hard, collecting points, to avoid ending the season in the relegation zone.
